It is never a dull moment in this active beach community that holds public events throughout the year. These include: Summer Concerts, Sandcastle Contests, the World Famous Pumpkin Race and a spectacular Holiday Tree lighting ceremony and Fireworks display at the Infamous Manhattan Beach Pier and in October they hold a weekend “Home Town Fair” with plenty of food tasting, local vendors and even a Beer Garden with Live Music!
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Downtown Manhattan Beach is considered the heart of the city and is located near the Manhattan Beach Pier. There are Zagat-rated casual-fine dining restaurants, specialty boutiques, and retailers that create a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use downtown center. The Metlox Center, just east of downtown, includes a luxury boutique hotel, spa, restaurants, shops, and underground parking. This is also the site of the weekly Farmer’s Market!
Manhattan Village Mall is a local shopping center that has recently undergone a major remodel. It is home to top retailers such as Apple, Macy’s & Sephora, and offers premium shopping, dining, and entertainment. Top Restaurants include Tin Roof Bistro, California Pizza Kitchen, and Mercado-Elevated Mexican Cuisine.
The Point in nearby El Segundo is a hip, modern outdoor mall with upscale boutiques, restaurants, cafes, salons & a SoulCycle studio. Be sure to visit Karen Scott, Sugarfina, and Lululemon before dining at Hopdoddy Burger Bar, North Italia, or Mendocino Farms Sandwich Shop.
Things to Do
Most of the local activities revolve around the typical Southern California lively beach culture. Residents show appreciation for their beach city by surfing, swimming, playing beach volleyball, skating, and biking on The Strand or exploring the 48 acres of parks including Begg Community Pool and the public tennis courts at Live Oak Park. It is summer almost every day in Manhattan Beach! Manhattan Beach also hosts a number of Beach Volleyball tournaments each year including the Annual AVP tournament where you can watch Olympic Gold Medalists on the Sand!
The city’s
REC Program offers Summer Camps as well as Adult Sports Leagues (Water Aerobics and Zumba) to all local residents throughout the year. Polliwog Park on the east side of town includes the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden, as well as a small lake, open-air concert amphitheater where Summer Concerts in the Park are held, playground equipment, picnic tables, restrooms, and a fenced dog exercise area.
The Manhattan Beach Library was rebuilt in 2015 and was awarded the Library of the Year in 2019. The new library includes a dedicated children’s library which included a dedicated children’s library, teen center, and community meeting room as well as a section for adult novels, reading areas, and public access to their technology center with computers and printers! The Ocean Views from the and floor are absolutely stunning!

Manhattan Beach Unified School District has test scores ranked #3 in the state of California and Mira Costa High School has been ranked in the Top 1% of high schools nationally.
